As we go through life, our body pays the price of our various injuries and will automatically compensate for them. When an area is injured, the body's recovery and healing mechanisms will shift the workload to other areas and deposits scar tissue in the injured area to stabilize it. This will cause permanent changes to the muscles, ligaments and joints in the area affected as well as compensatory areas. These changes will cause "permanent" compensatory shifts throughout the body. This can be a source of repeated pain and dysfunction. In this workshop, we will look at the balance and correct function of joints. The joints of the body are categorized into two functions: mobilizing the body and stabilizing the body, with some joints having both functions to some degree.
With a few home stretches and exercises, we can help rebalance function through motion and reduce chronic repetitive stress and pain. Trish will demonstrate several stretches, exercises, core breathing, and possibly some simple shoulder work. While we can achieve more progress by scheduling a formal Functional Stability Assessment and develop a custom rehabilitation program for you. Even a few small simple activities can help or even prevent many of our stability and balance issues.
Workshop fee is non-refundable, but can be applied by attendees to products and services in the Wellness Center, during the Proprioception and Balance Workshop.
